FatCow Domain Registration: Review & Summary

Register your domain with FatCow to create a unique identity on the Internet for your personal or business website. FatCow’s domain registration services enable you to quickly register a new domain or transfer an existing domain to FatCow. You can create up to five sub-domains (on the UNIX platform) and point them to any IP address, and your primary domain can also be pointed to a different domain if you wish. Managing these details is made simple by FatCow’s user-friendly interface.

FatCow’s prices are kept low, which allows you to have the flexibility of registering as many domain names as you need. It’s a good idea to register different versions of your name (such as yourcomany.com, yourcompany.net) to make sure you own them instead of someone else. There are over a dozen extensions available, including the usual .com, .net, and .org, but also .biz, .info, and geographical extensions such as .co.uk, .org.uk, .ca and .eu. Premium extensions are also available, including .tv, .mobi, .cc, and .ch.

FatCow’s domain tools include a DNS record, which is a group of settings controlling the management of your domain name and determining which server the web address is pointed to. It also determines how your email is handled. Customizing the DNR record is free and simple – once you have joined up and registered your domain name, you will have access to a Members Area, which has a “Custom DNS Record” option to make it easy for you to exactly specify your needs for the domain.

FatCow.com Web Hosting

If you have a domain name registered with FatCow, you may also decide to use the FatCow hosting services as well. If you choose the UNIX platform, you can also have up several sub-domains, which enables you to provide targeted content to your site’s visitors. For example, you could have a sales sub-domain (sales.yourcompany.com), a help sub-domain (help.yourcompany.com), and so on. Depending on the hosting package you choose, you could have up to an unlimited number of sub-domains for your site.

FatCow’s services include domain privacy to protect your personal information. Without domain privacy, your name, address and phone number become available to anyone via a public database called WHOIS, when you register the domain. This exposes your personal data to potential spammers, nuisance marketers, identity thieves, fraudsters, or other undesired contact. Domain privacy keeps your details private and provides the WHOIS database with generic information. All administrative, billing and technical contact information is masked, but there is no difference to your ownership or management of your domain. Any requests to view your personal information are filtered before being forwarded to you, and you can choose whether or not to respond. Domain privacy is available for most major extensions at an extremely low annual cost.

FatCow offers automatic domain registration renewals, which removes any worry that the domain registration might lapse. The automated service is free for all FatCow domain customers.
